This is a sample frame taken from my real-time hair simulation and rendering system. Hair shadows are generated using Deep Opacity Maps.

Abstract
This project has two components: real-time hair simulation, and real-time hair rendering. The simulation system is based on Fetherstone's articulated rigid body dynamics technique, and interactions between hair strands are handled with a non-linear spring system that connects neighboring strands. The rendering system uses Deep Opacity Maps for real-time semi-transparent hair shadows. The rendering system also uses antialiasing with approximate hair transparency by a multi-layer composition technique.
